Built as a joint project between Colorado County and the
Lower Colorado River Authority, this park is open to the public for reunions,
picnics and other activities. The park also plays host to multiple athletic
events throughout the year and is the rally point for activities such as runs,
walks and bicycle rides/ races. The site played a role in Texas’ War for
Independence when General Sam Houston and his troops crossed the river near the
what was then known as Beeson’s Crossing.

A rich baseball heritage - In 1948, Weimar built the first
lighted baseball field between San Antonio and Houston. Citizens named it
Veterans Park in honor of those who had been killed in two World Wars. Baseball
had been popular in Weimar even back in the preceding century. The sport
continues to be popular with Weimar's State Championship High School program and
semi-pro baseball team. Athletic interest abound throughout the local
population, with probably the greatest interest in baseball.
