between Austin,
Houston and San Antonio and within a 100 mile radius of over 50 percent of the
state's population. The county was named for the grand Colorado River which
traverses it.
And Texas-sized too!
We are the 98th largest county of the 254 counties in Texas; with an
estimated population of 20,390. The county consists of 949 square miles with a
1990 population density of 23.60 residents per square mile. The average density
in Texas is 65.6 persons per square mile.
The county seat is in Columbus and Eagle Lake is the next
most significant city.
