Colorado County Safety Rest Area
On IH-10, just west of Columbus near Glidden.
The Colorado County Safety Rest Area has received state-wide recognition for its
cleanliness and safety. More than a rest-stop, the facility provides
information about area history and culture through two videos and provides
travelers with information about area businesses via a computer kiosk located at
the site.
As a part of the federal highway enhancement
program, the Texas Department of Transportation designed the site as a tribute
the area’s natural beauty and environment.
Developed from recycled material,
the facility resembles the area’s many bridges, and includes tile murals and
interpretive signage. For a virtual tour of the Colorado County Safety Rest
Area
